College can ruin some things

Dating at a Christian college can be a complete nightmare. Nothing is kept private, instead students are driven by "accountability" to pry into each others lives. That is the problem. There is no filter between accountability and gossip, that is my conclusion.

Tired tired tired

Spring break has not worn off! Between practices and classes this week has been a long one, this weekend should be an escape full of relaxing and rejuvenation but I'm afraid it won't be. The weather is so warm and beautiful, how can I be expected to stay indoors and relax? I think the escape that nature has to offer will be perfect.

Essayists of our time

I've been taking an essay and article writing class this semester and one of our required textbooks is called "Essayists of our Time". It is a collection of works by famous essays writers of the the 20th century. All of the greats are there, Twain, Orwell, Dillard, Thoreau. What do they all have in common? They are all pretty much the same. The same artistic style and demeanor. There are few ideas really represented in their works, Thoreau is the only one that really seems to have represented sincere originality in creating ideas. His ideas created a movement that has evolved over decades! This being said though I am not saying they were not great writers, I would be lying if I made such a claim. They are role models for those of us who are developing writers.

The time change is killing me

It's the first day back from spring break, and how do most of us feel? Wiped out. The time changed on Saturday and we were greeted with chapel on our first day back. It is a good start to the rest of our semester. The weather is beautiful and even though everyone is tired we are happy to be reunited with friends that we have seen in a week. We get restless with classes, schedules, and people and crave for nothing more than a break, but it is during our break that we realize what we miss. Classes, schedules, and people are what we miss the most.

Day one of 5

Today officially started spring break, I never count the weekends as part of my vacations. It started off the way that every spring break should, sleeping past lunch. I woke up and decided that today was a good day to go mountain biking. With my bike in the truck I was off the Tapia Canyon to enjoy a little sun before more rain. I relished in my freedom today as it might be the last day of spring break that I have complete freedom. Why? Because it is suddenly my week to serve the system, yes, I got summonsed to jury duty on spring break. God help me.

Spring break has officially arrived

I had no classes today, except for my least favorite one, chapel. Chapel isn't supposed to feel like a class, I'm not really sure what chapel three times a week is supposed to feel like actually. At the end of every chapel I think we are supposed to feel encouraged and uplifted. That's rarely the case. Instead most feel torn down or don't feel anything except a little drool that creeped out during a little nap. Today all any of us could feel was spring break. It was waiting right outside the gym doors, teasing us, so close yet so out of reach.

Lunch was actually quite delicious today

Thursday lunches are probably the most looked forward meal of the week, why? There's no unexpected surprises, the only kind of surprises that a cafeteria could produce, you know the kind of surprises I'm referring to. These surprises haven't changed, there were in our elementary school cafeterias and they only get worse as you get older. When we are in grade school our tastes and likes are limited but in college we like to eat different more complicated food. This creates the perfect situation for surprises. Mongolian beef is a favorite meal of the "caf", I like to think of it as "Mongolian Disaster". Everyone likes surprises but only in moderation.
